Capt. Ken’s Redfish Crack – Saltwater Streamer

A versatile shrimp and baitfish imitation for redfish, snook, and other inshore game fish.

Capt. Ken’s Redfish Crack is a variation of this proven pattern, developed from Capt. Ken Tutalo’s experience guiding the shallow flats and backcountry waters of Tampa Bay. Tied on strong saltwater #2 hooks and measuring approximately 3 inches, these flies are designed to create lifelike movement and transparency in the water

Why We Fish It

Tampa Bay redfish can be pretty selective about the flies they eat. This pattern offers a natural-looking profile that imitates shrimp, crustaceans, and small forage fish. Its combination of movement and transparency makes it an excellent choice when fish are feeding but refusing more aggressive presentations.

When to Fish It

  • On shallow grass flats and sandy potholes

  • Along mangrove shorelines and backcountry edges

  • When redfish and snook are feeding on shrimp or small baitfish

  • When inshore game fish are being selective

How to Fish It

Fish slowly with short, sharp strips, allowing the fly to pause between movements. Vary the retrieve until you find what triggers a strike. Work the fly around grass edges, potholes, mangroves, and other areas where fish are actively feeding.

Baxter House Guide Tip

When Tampa Bay redfish are being finicky, slow down. Short, sharp strips followed by a pause can make this fly look like an easy meal. Don't be afraid to let the fly sit for a moment before moving it again.
