9 Para Emerger Fly Selection – Mayfly & Caddis Emergers, Sizes #14–#18
Nine guide-selected parachute emerger flies in three proven hatch colors and three sizes. Selected by Capt. Ken Tutalo to imitate emerging mayflies and caddisflies when trout are feeding just below or within the surface film.
Description
Trout often feed heavily on emerging insects, making emerger patterns an important part of any successful dry fly box. The 9 Para Emerger Fly Selection gives you three versatile hatch imitations in the sizes commonly needed when trout are taking insects during emergence.
Each fly is selected by Capt. Ken Tutalo, drawing on years of fly fishing and guiding experience. These patterns imitate one of the most vulnerable stages of an aquatic insect's life cycle, when the insect is moving toward the surface and becoming available to feeding trout.
This assortment includes Sulfur, Blue Wing Olive, and Brown Mayfly/Caddisfly patterns in sizes #14, #16, and #18. The parachute-style design provides a visible wing and a low-riding presentation that helps imitate insects struggling through the surface film.
Why We Fish It
Emergers are often the missing link between fishing nymphs below the surface and dry flies on top. Trout may be feeding on insects that have not fully emerged, even when you see occasional rises. A properly presented emerger can be much more effective than a conventional dry fly in these situations.
When to Fish It
Fish these patterns during Sulfur, Blue Wing Olive, and Brown Mayfly or Caddis hatches. They are especially useful when trout are rising steadily but refusing traditional dry flies, or when you notice feeding activity just beneath the surface.
How to Fish It
Fish the Para Emerger on a dead drift through feeding lanes and likely holding water. Allow the fly to ride low in or near the surface film. Use a careful presentation and avoid unnecessary drag. You can also fish it as part of a dry-dropper or emerger rig when trout are feeding at different depths.
Baxter House Guide Tip
When trout are rising but won't take your dry fly, don't assume they're eating fully emerged insects. They may be feeding on emergers just below the surface. Try a Para Emerger in the matching hatch color and size before changing your entire approach.
