5 Dumbbell Eye Zonker Flies – Rabbit Strip Streamer Fly Selection
Five custom dumbbell eye rabbit strip streamers in five different colors. These 4-inch baitfish imitations feature rabbit fur, Flashabou, UV accents, and rubber legs to create lifelike movement and attract predatory fish in both freshwater and saltwater.
Description
Capt. Ken’s Dumbbell Eye Zonker Selection brings together five custom rabbit strip streamer patterns designed to imitate wounded or struggling baitfish.
Each fly combines the natural movement of rabbit fur with just the right amount of flash and motion from Flashabou, UV accents, and rubber legs. Dumbbell eyes add weight to help get the fly down into the feeding zone, making these streamers effective in a variety of fishing conditions.
Our guides regularly fish these patterns for trout and bass in the Upper Delaware River and other trout fisheries. They are also productive on Florida's flats and backcountry waters for species including spotted seatrout, snook, redfish, and other saltwater predators.
These are custom patterns built with quality materials and attention to detail—not the inexpensive mass-produced streamers commonly found online.
Why Fish Dumbbell Eye Zonkers?
-
Natural rabbit strip movement: Rabbit fur breathes and moves in the water, creating an enticing baitfish profile.
-
Dumbbell eye weight: Helps the fly sink and reach fish holding deeper in the water column.
-
Flash and UV accents: Flashabou and UV materials add attraction without overwhelming the pattern.
-
Rubber leg movement: Provides additional action as the fly is stripped or allowed to sink.
-
Freshwater and saltwater versatility: Effective for a wide range of predatory gamefish.
When to Fish Them
-
When trout or bass are feeding on baitfish
-
In deeper pools, runs, and along structure
-
During spring and fall streamer fishing
-
On Florida flats and backcountry waters
-
When targeting snook, redfish, spotted seatrout, and other saltwater predators
How to Fish Them
Use short, sharp strips followed by pauses to imitate a wounded baitfish. Allow the dumbbell eyes to help the fly sink between retrieves. Experiment with retrieve speed and depth until you find the presentation that triggers strikes.
In rivers, try swinging the fly across current or stripping it through deeper pools and along undercut banks. On the flats, work the fly around potholes, grass edges, and other areas where predatory fish ambush baitfish.
Capt. Ken’s Guide Tip
A good baitfish streamer needs more than a realistic appearance. It needs movement. The rabbit strip provides natural action, while the flash and rubber legs add subtle attraction. Don't retrieve this fly too quickly—pauses allow the rabbit fur to pulse and move naturally, often making the difference when fish are following but not committing.
